Enel y Nestlé se asocian para invertir en proyecto solar Ganado

Nestlé and Enel Partner to Advance Sustainable Energy

Nestlé, the world’s largest food and beverage company, has partnered with Enel, a multinational energy company, to invest in the Ganado solar-plus-storage project in Texas. The project is expected to generate 595 gigawatt hours of electricity per year and reduce carbon emissions by 126,294 metric tons of CO2 annually. Nestlé will purchase 100 percent of the renewable electricity attributes generated by the project’s energy production, estimated to be an average of 333,000 megawatt hours per year for 15 years. This renewable electricity will help Nestlé reduce carbon emissions in many of its US facilities, where household favorite brands such as DiGiorno pizza, Stouffer’s, Nesquik, Purina Pro Plan pet food, and Tidy Cats cat litter are made. The annual carbon emission reduction is equivalent to the emissions of more than 27,200 cars per year.

Enel’s Ganado solar-plus-storage project is expected to become operational in Q2 2023. Nestlé’s investment in the project is part of the company’s detailed, time-bound Net Zero Roadmap, which aims to source 100 percent renewable electricity across its sites globally by 2025.

Enel’s Flexible Portfolio of Solutions

Enel’s flexible portfolio of solutions scales to meet the needs of each customer, leveraging the business demand for clean electricity to build momentum toward a zero-carbon economy. Customers of all sizes are seeking clean energy projects to help reduce their emissions and use more renewable energy, whether through power purchase agreements (PPAs), direct retail electricity purchases, upfront tax equity investments, or other tailored agreements.

Paolo Romanacci, head of Enel North America’s renewable energy business, Enel Green Power, said, “Enel is proud to partner with the world’s largest food and beverage company to enable the addition of new clean power capacity in the United States.”

Nestlé’s Commitment to Sustainability

Nestlé’s investment in the Ganado solar-plus-storage project is part of the company’s commitment to sustainability. Kate Short, Chief Procurement Officer, Nestlé North America, said, “Carbon reduction efforts in the company’s operations are an important part of Nestlé’s journey to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. We are continuing to accelerate our work to make sure we produce and transport our products in a sustainable way.”

Nestlé’s Net Zero Roadmap includes sourcing 100 percent renewable electricity across its sites globally by 2025. The company is also committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2025 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Expanding the Availability of Renewable Energy

Nestlé’s investment in the Ganado solar-plus-storage project will help expand the availability of renewable energy, adding enough solar electricity to the US grid to power about 24,574 homes each year. The project will also create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the region.

Enel’s Ganado solar-plus-storage project is an example of how businesses can work together to advance sustainable energy and reduce carbon emissions. As more companies commit to sustainability, the demand for clean energy projects will continue to grow, creating new opportunities for renewable energy companies and helping to build a zero-carbon economy.
